Born and raised in Galena, Jake is a 6th-generation Kansan. Faith in God, the importance of family, love of country and the dignity of work are just some of the values he learned at a young age. Jake and his wife Suzanne have worked to pass these same values on to their children: Ava, Joe, Maggie, and Gus.
Jake met his wife Suzanne during their time at Pittsburg State University. He worked for Watco, one of the nation’s top short-line rail companies, where he learned the value of putting the customer first. Jake was twice elected to represent the people of Southeast Kansas in the State Senate, serving from 2013-2017. Seen as an innovator and champion of conservative reform, Jake helped spearhead welfare-to-work reform in Kansas, which is badly needed on the federal level. Jake led the fight, along with the Kansas Farm Bureau, to protect Kansas families and farmers by authoring and passing a lid on property tax increases. He has an A+ rating from the NRA for leading the successful passage of Constitutional Carry. Jake proudly holds a 100% voting record with Kansans for Life and earned the “2017 Pro-Life Hero Award” for his work on Simon’s Law.
Jake currently serves as the 40th Kansas State Treasurer and is the youngest statewide elected official in America. As Treasurer, Jake has taken the service and efficiency of the office to a whole new level. To date he has returned over $45 Million in money and valuables to Kansans, shattering the record for the most unclaimed property returned in a single year. He also successfully passed legislation giving tax deductions to individuals living with disabilities; allowing them and their families a way to save for their future. Additionally, Jake successfully sued the federal government for their unwillingness to return an estimated $23 billion to patriotic Americans who purchased war bonds during WWII.
All of Jake’s many accomplishments in the Treasurer’s Office have taken place with a reduced budget and staff. In 2018, Vice-President Mike Pence publicly acknowledged Jake for his stewardship and leadership for taxpayers in Kansas.
With his announcement, Jake outlined his Contract with Kansas. The document clearly spells out the values and voting record Kansans can expect from Jake once elected to Congress. For too long politicians have only been concerned with winning an election instead of fighting for conservative values. Not anymore.
